From Dennis Cone:
Lifetime member Jim Warters passed away Sunday at the age of 82. A former writer for PGA Magazine, Waters was a member of the Palm Beach County Golf Association Hall of Fame and was inducted into the the Professional Caddies Association (PCA) Hall of Fame in 2009 for his long-time "contribution to the profession of caddying and the game of golf."
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism at the University of Tennessee, Warters launched his news writing career at the Bristol (Va.-Tenn.) Herald-Courier in 1953. He subsequently served as UPI night news editor in Knoxville, UPI Bureau Chief in Jacksonville, Fla.; columnist and city editor, Daytona Beach News-Journal; sports columnist Orlando Sentinel; and sports columnist, Palm Beach Post. He also served overseas with the U.S. Army Ninth Corps, 583rd Engineers, Sendai, Japan, in 1946-47 and Tennessee National Guard in 1952-53 with rank of Second Lieutenant.
We will post funeral arrangements and a full obituary when everything is finalized.
